sequence

  1. prep
    1. turn both lid and top as round as you like
    2. put small recess in top of box and bottom of lid
  2. box
    1. expand-chuck box and rough-shape outside
    2. add ridge at bottom for outside chuck grip
    3. compress-chuck box on base and hollow inside, sand, and finish
    4. expand-chuck base inside
      1. push up to base of jaws to ensure square to rim
    5. finish shaping, sanding, and finishing of outside and bottom
      1. obviously remove chuck-marks on base if any and add any base details
  3. lid
    1. expand-chuck lid and add tenon/groove for compress-chuck at top
    2. compress-chuck lid and size base of lid to diameter of box
      1. if in-fitting then size to inside diameter of box
        1. this will be the outside of a ridge
      2. if out-fitting size to outside diameter of box
        1. this will be the inside of a ridge
      3. for salt-cellars there's no ridge since lid has hinge and slides over top of box
    3. finish shaping bottom of lid
    4. add groove to inside ridge area for expand-chuck lid later
    5. taper ridge to allow for more options to size to box
    6. sand and finish bottom of lid
      1. be sure to test-fit to box
    7. expand-chuck bottom of lid
    8. shape top of lid as desired
      1. include center knob for tight-fitting lids
      2. lids that extend beyond edge of box don't need knobs
    9. sand and finish box lid
