Design/Toolpath

Job Setup

  • X-Y datum is CENTER of material
  • orientation is along the Y axis
  • calculate roughing and finishing cuts as normal
  • 3D-raster at 90-degrees
    • that way less rotation, more travel along the Y, should be faster
  • when saving toolpaths select correct post-processor (e.g., “Axiom HHC CNC 4TH”)
    • this is how the X axis motion is translated into A axis rotation

Material Prep

  • rough to diameter + a couple mm
  • mark center line on piece
  • measure center end-to-end for finding XY=0
  • to zero Z axis either
    • touch-off puck Z to metal bed
      • then +Z to 75mm and re-zero
    • or create a 75mm block to use for Z-axis 0-ing
